As part of the national response to contain the spread and mitigate the impact of COVID-19, the Department of Social Development has activated shelters and in some cases established new shelters to provide meals and accommodation to homeless people and children.

The purpose of Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu’s visit is to monitor compliance with the lockdown regulations and recommended hygiene standards to contain the further spread of COVID-19, especially in Gauteng which is the epicentre of the pandemic in South Africa.
