Minister Tolashe Leads Mandela Day Activities in Chris Hani District

As part of the 2025 Nelson Mandela International Day commemorations, the Minister of Social Development, Ms Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe, will lead two community engagements in Chris Hani District, Eastern Cape, on Thursday, 18 July 2025.

The day will begin with a visit to Huis John Vorster Old Age Facility in Komani (Queenstown), where the Minister will interact with older persons, hand over symbolic gifts, and reaffirm the Department’s commitment to the care and protection of older persons. 

Following this, the Minister will proceed to Mlungisi Township, where she will engage with the broader community as part of the Integrated Community Registration and Outreach Programme (ICROP). 
 
This initiative is led by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), working in collaboration with the Department of Social Development and other partners. The outreach aims to bring services closer to the people and raise awareness about the Department’s interventions in building a caring and inclusive society.
 

These activities form part of the Department’s continued efforts to live the Mandela Day ethos of service and community upliftment under the theme: “Let’s Get Involved ”
