Ms. Nokuzola Tolashe
Minister: Social Development
Mr. Ganief Hendriecks
Deputy Minister: Social Development
Director General: Social Development

The Social Development portfolio, comprising of the Department of Social Development, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), and the National Development Agency (NDA),  will on Friday, 26 September 2025, engage with communities through two important initiatives that aim to improve access to services and raise awareness on critical social issues.

In Mpumalanga, the Minister of Social Development, Honourable Sisisi Tolashe, will lead the Integrated Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) in Victor Khanye Local Municipality (Delmas). This people-centred programme will bring essential services directly to residents, reducing the need for long-distance travel and strengthening direct engagement between government and beneficiaries.

The Mpumalanga outreach will also see the participation of the MEC for Social Development, Ms. N. Hlophe, and the Executive Mayor of Victor Khanye Local Municipality. Services will include grant applications, reviews, and enquiries – including the SRD R370 grant,  along with support from 14 government departments, NGOs, state entities, and financial institutions offering empowerment information.

Meanwhile, in KwaZulu-Natal, the Department of Social Development, in partnership with Tafta, will commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day in the Harry Gwala District. The day will be commemorated under the theme “#AskAboutDementia; #AskAboutAlzheimers”, and will raise awareness about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, encourage early detection and intervention, provide education and support to families and communities, and address stigma and misconceptions surrounding the condition.

The commemoration seeks to raise awareness across all generations, including young people, while addressing stigma, discrimination, and harmful practices that affect people living with the condition and their families. By fostering dialogue and education, the event aims to promote dignity, compassion, and inclusion for people with Alzheimer’s.
