The Department of Social Development will commemorate the International Children’s Day on 08 June 2024, at Kwa-Mhlanga Provincial Legislature in Kwa-Mhlanga, Mpumalanga Province. Under the theme, “Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children – Progress on Policy and Practice,” this occasion aims to shed light on critical issues impacting the well-being of children.

International Children’s Day, observed annually on 01 June, traces its origins to the 1925 World Conference for the well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland. It serves as a global platform to raise awareness and mobilize action towards addressing challenges faced by children worldwide.

This commemoration is part of the Department of Social Development's broader initiatives during Child Protection Week, spanning from May 28th to June 4th every year.
