The Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu will today, Friday 12 January undertake the final leg of the Ministerial Outreach Programme in Mpumalanga by visiting SASSA Local Office in Mbombela.

The SASSA Local office is one of the 3 local offices under Ehlanzeni District Municipality and covers including Mbombela, Barbeton, Matsulu, Daantjie, Kabokweni, Phola and Majika. The local office pays 254 746 social grants to the tune of over 69 million rand per month.

The purpose of the visit is to assess SASSA’s queue management system which was piloted in 2022 to improve SASSA’s operational efficiency, better customer experience in less time and create a better operating environment for staff.

The advantage of this ticketing system is that it bridges the gap between technology and responsive customer service by giving social grants applicants and beneficiaries quicker access to the services they need and that they wait in the right queue. This In turn, enables SASSA to gather real-time data about the service, the wait time and the customers. This data can be used to work out which areas are working well and which ones need improvements.

Minister Zulu will use this opportunity to interact with social grants applicants and receive a progress report from SASSA management on resolving outstanding payment for this month.
