The Department of Social Development will on Wednesday, 28 June, induct the new panel of arbitrators for Non-Profit Organisation’s (NPOs) in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
Appointed in terms of the NPO Act 71 of 1997, the role of the panel of arbitrators will be to adjudicate on the cases submitted to the department from organisations that would be deregistered due to non-compliance with the requirements of the NPO Act that makes it mandatory for registered NPOs to submit annual reports.
The adjudication process will also apply to organisations that would have been refused registration by the department.
The department wishes to announce and welcome: Adv. Letsepe Thubakgale; Mr. Alewyn Dippenaar;
- Adv. Motlatjo Josephine Ralefatane;
- Chief. Livhuwani Matsila;
- Ms. Phindile Hlongwane;
- Mr. Aubrey Bongani Ngcobo;
- Mr. Mzolisi Michael Toni and;
- Mr. Moses Themba Makhweyane as NPO panel of arbitrators.
Advocate Motlatjo Josephine Ralefatsane as Chairperson while Mr. Mzolisi Michael Toni is the Deputy Chairperson.
To date, all the panel members received their appointment letters and accepted their responsibility.
The department wishes the panel members all the best in their new assignment and hopes that their experience will bring value to the non- profit organisation sector as they assist with speeding up the adjudication of appeals.
Non-Profit Organisations are important as they assist with rendering of developmental services for marginalised, poor, and vulnerable persons, including, women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Their role became more important as the country recovers from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which has negatively affected poor and vulnerable South Africans. The Department reaffirms its position in empowering NPOs to remain compliant to avoid deregistration.
