The Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, will deliver the keynote address at the official opening ceremony of the Presidential Social Sector Summit, scheduled to take place from 4-5 August 2022 at Birchwood Conference Centre, Gauteng Province under the theme: “Fostering Social Cohesion to Enable Socio-economic Participation in Communities”

During the State of the Nation Address in February this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa made a clarion call for a comprehensive social compact — a shared national agenda with all key sectors of society to build a South Africa envisaged in the National Development Plan (Vision 2030). The initial Social Sector Summit was postponed due to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NDP also identifies the role that different sectors of society, including the social sector need to play in reaching an inclusive and prosperous society.

According to the NDP, South Africa can realise these ambitious goals by drawing on the energies of its people and promoting leadership and partnerships throughout society.

The Summit will bring together 600 delegates across 9 provinces to deliberate on five thematic areas, namely resource mobilisation, transformation and job creation, capacity building, regulatory framework and community development.

The Summit will also focus on the social sector’s contribution to South Africa’s post-COVID recovery measures in the context of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.

The President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa will officially close the Summit on Friday, 5 August 2022.
