MEDIA ADVISORY
09 February 2021
The Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, will embark on a three-day Outreach Programme focused on social services compliance and monitoring in the Western Cape Province from 10 to 12 February.
Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) forms part of the Department’s core function and with the scourge of gender-based violence having increased drastically, there is a significant public outcry for government to take decisive measures to end GBVF in all its forms.
Minister Zulu will start the outreach programme with a visit to Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children in Manenberg where she will interact with leadership of the local community, staff and GBVF survivors on issues impacting on their lives. She will also hand over a cheque for GBV survivor empowerment services.
In a Pre-SoNa engagement, Minister Zulu will visit the SASSA Bellville Local Office where she will interact with social grant beneficiaries and applicants. The areas of focus during Minister’s visit to the SASSA office will be service delivery improvement and progress on implementation of the Ten-Point Plan.
On the same day, Minister Zulu will conduct a site visit in the Mfuleni District to interact with staff members of Gwebsa - a National Development Agency (NDA) supported project and NDA Volunteers.
To address measures of ensuring safety and protection of human rights for older persons who were evicted by the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged, Minister and MEC of Social Development in the Western Cape - Ms Sharna Fernandez, will engage with older persons on issues impacting directly on their daily lives
