The Deputy Minister of Social Development , Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu in collaboration with the South African National Aids Council (SANAC), the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), UNAIDS and sex worker advocacy groups will hold a dialogue with sex workers on Monday, 05 October 2020. Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Mr John Jeffrey; Deputy Minister of Police Mr Cassel Mathale; Deputy Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla and Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize.
The dialogue is hosted during Social Development and will review progress on the implementation of the Sex Worker Strategy 2016-2019 and discuss the 2019-2022 proposed plan.
It seeks to explore the challenges sex workers experience amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Sex workers continue to be the subject of human rights violations and gender-based violence. These challenges have been heightened by the outbreak of the corona virus.
The dialogue will also receive updates from all the mentioned departments.
