Media Advisory

The Deputy Minister of Social Development Mme Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with National Lotteries Commission (NLC) and Change Richmond Foundation funded by NLC, will be distributing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) in Matshiding Village, Mpumalanga.

Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu will launch the village to village initiative at the Traditional Authority in honour of the Chairperson of the NHTL. The initiative is part of the compendium of the Social and Behaviour Change Programmes (SBC) which the Department is implementing. These programmes includes amongst others, Men and Boys Championing Change, YOLO, ChommY, Rock Leadership (Traditional Leaders Programme) Families Matters, Community Capacity Enhancement (CCE), Ke Moja and now adding COVID-19.

The intention of this initiative is to highlight the urgency and importance of Tribal Authorities in rural communities and the continued functioning of these offices as well as structures within a COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a commitment made in 2018 where the Department of Social Development in partnership with the National House of Traditional Leaders, launched the Rock Leadership Programme which aims at galvanizing all Traditional Leaders in the response to HIV/AIDS and Gender-Based Violence. The Department is leading the implementation of Goal 4 of the Social and Structural Drivers of HIV/AIDS and GBVF outlined in the National Strategic Plan of HIV/AIDS 2017 – 2022.
