MINISTER SUSAN SHABANGU ON MEDIA TOUR OF SASSA VALUE CHAIN
Wednesday, 02 May 2018
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) issued its new card to new beneficiaries as from the 17th April 2018 at specific limited locations throughout the country. Most of the new beneficiaries get their first payments in the month of May.

The media is hereby invited as follows to the launch and to observe the outcome of this pilot and its individual processes in the value chain:

Date: 03 May 2018

Venue: SASSA office, 70 Durban Street, Worcester

Time: 10h00-13h00

Media will also be briefed about the work that has been done in the process of phasing out Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) and phasing in the South African Post Office (SAPO) for distributing social grants.

SASSA will begin to perform the swapping of the old SASSA card for the new one from 07 May 2018 at selected specific venues. Details will be provided at the launch.

SASSA contracted SAPO in December 2017 to take over the function of distributing social grants to beneficiaries. SASSA and SAPO have since taken a phased approach of enrolling new beneficiaries and swapping old cards with the new SASSA card.

The opportunity will shed light on how the process and the operation entails from end to end. The capabilities of the new card will also be put in the public eye for all to see.

New social grant beneficiaries will be provided with the new SASSA card at specific locations in the country before the whole system is rolled out on a large scale. Beneficiaries with the old card will also be able to swap their old cards with the new SASSA card due to the fact that the old cards are approaching their expiry date. A huge communication plan will be rolled out to inform individual holders of the old card about when to swap their cards for the new ones.
