Minister Dlamini to host dialogues with Northern Cape Non-Profit Organisation (NPO's)
Thursday, 12 July 2012

Media Advisory

In a quest to build sustainable working relations between Social Development and NPO sector, the Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will meet with the Northern Cape NPO sector. The meeting will be in the form of dialogues which seek to improve the manner in which NPOs work.

During the dialogues, NPOs will be encouraged to register in accordance with the NPO Act 71 of 1997. This will assist with the establishment of administrative and regulatory framework for the NPO sector and also enhance how they conduct their affairs.
By the end of March this year, the total number of registered NPOs was 85 248 and there has been a steady growth in various provinces. Out of the total number of NPOs, Northern Cape had only 2% of the overall NPOs in the country.

It is in this context that the Minister identified a need to host dialogues with the NPO sector across all provinces including the Northern Cape. These dialogues will culminate into the national NPO Summit which will be hosted in August this year. Minister Dlamini will be accompanied by Social Development MEC in North West, Mr Alvin Botes.
