CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR CHILDREN IN PORT NOLLOTH, NORTHERN CAPE Print E-mail
Thursday, 24 January 2019

There is an increase in substance abuse which results in irresponsible behaviour such as the abuse of vulnerable groups, in particular, children, women, older persons and persons with disabilities during the festive season.

Although families wish to use this period to spend quality time with their loved ones by taking them out for holidays, they are unable to do so due to persistent levels of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

As such, the Deputy Minister of Social Development, Mrs Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, will on Thursday, 13 December, host a Christmas lunch for children from Port Nolloth and surrounding areas.

This lunch will afford the children a lifetime opportunity to learn about the positive values from the lives of former President Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Nontsikelelo Sisulu, who would be turning hundred years this year if they were still alive.

The children will be encouraged during the interaction with the Deputy Minister to emulate exceptional leadership qualities championed by both Tata Mandela and Mama Sisulu.

Social Development is the custodian of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 which upholds the rights of children and also seeks to protect children against many forms of abuse including human trafficking, child labour and neglect.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event arranged as follows:

Date:    Thursday, 13 December, 2018
Time:   10h00
Venue: Port Nolloth Sports Grounds, Richtersveld Local Municipality – Northern Cape Province
