DEAF LEARNERS AT KUTLWANONG AND ITEKO SPECIAL SCHOOLS TO BENEFIT FROM COMPUTER CENTRES IN PHOKENG – NORTH WEST Print E-mail
Friday, 12 October 2018
The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Mrs Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu - in partnership with the MTN SA Foundation, will unveil disability-friendly computer laboratories at the Kutlwanong School for the Deaf and Iteko Special School on Monday, 15 October.

The Kutlwanong School for the Deaf provides educational needs to 246 learners with mobility challenges, Down syndrome, Autism and Epilepsy.

Established in 1934, the Iteko Special School equips 566 disabled learners with skills in welding, woodwork, bricklaying, needlework, knitting and gardening.

The learners are also offered extra-curricular activities including soccer, netball, table tennis, volley ball, cricket and basketball.

The launch of the specialised computer laboratories marks a long-standing Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Department of Social Development and the MTN SA Foundation. The partnership aims to address the lack of technologically-advanced educational facilities in special-needs schools.

Thirty eight computer laboratories of this calibre have been opened through this PPP in this financial year. This initiative forms part of the Social Development Month Campaign which aims to take social services to poor communities.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the unveiling of the computer laboratories arranged as follows:
