PLANNED CONSULTATION ON CHILD RELATED AND OTHER SOCIAL ASSISTANCE POLICY PROPOSALS Print E-mail
Sunday, 17 September 2017

Pretoria, 17 September 2017: The Department of Social Development has been engaged in the process of reviewing and developing various policies and legislation in an endeavour to improve social assistance access to vulnerable and poor communities, specifically for children over the past three financial years.

These include proposals on the universalization of the Child Support Grant (CSG), a policy on Maternity Benefits; a policy on a Child Fund for CSG beneficiaries, a strategy on linking the CSG with other child related Government services and ongoing projects around social assistance for youth and financial literacy for social grant beneficiaries.

The aim of these consultations is to create a platform to engage stakeholders on the discussion papers, policy proposals and strategies for advancing social assistance for children as well as to critically examine the proposals to strengthen policy options.

The consultations will inter alia serve to identify gaps in the policy agenda and to improve proposed policy interventions, improve the impact of current interventions provided to vulnerable children and their families, enhance collaboration with external stakeholder and solicit their support as well as develop and articulate shared outcomes across all sectors dealing with child poverty. They will also serve to augment coordination and integration across a range of services and interventions targeting vulnerable children and their families.
