Friday, 02 June 2017

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will on Sunday, June 04, close the Child Protection Week Campaign in Lusikisiki – Eastern Cape Province.

Lusikisiki was chosen this year to bring to a special focus on ukuthwalwa (child marriages) - a practice where girls are abducted and forced to marry older men.

The Minister will also visit the village of KwaCele where the community working with Government and traditional leadership fought successfully to end this practice.

Government led by the Department of Social Development launched Child Protection in the Western Cape to bring communities, especially families, to the plight of children in South Africa.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the closing of Child Protection Week arranged as follows:

Date: Sunday, 04 June, 2017

Time:12h00

Venue: Lusikisiki College in Lusikisiki – Eastern Cape Province
