Media Advisory

Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will attend and address the Children’s Parliament in the Eastern Cape Legislature. Children’s parliament is part of Child Protection week campaign which is annually commemorated by government.

During the event, the Minister will have an opportunity to highlight the children’s rights including the rights to education, shelter as well as social security services. Minister Dlamini will also highlight the importance of strengthening families with emphasis on positive discipline as well as the prevention and early intervention services for children and families.

Children will be afforded an opportunity to make presentations on issues such as child abuse, access to basic quality education, substance abuse and child headed house-holds. Government departments and Child Protection Organizations will interact with children with the intention to develop a programme of action in response to the presentations by the children.

Minister Dlamini will be accompanied by MEC for Social Development in Eastern Cape, Dr Pemmy Majodina and Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kieviet.
