| Minister Dlamini to address the closing ceremony of child protection week |

Media Advisory Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will attend and address the closing ceremony of the Child Protection Week campaign. The Minister will call on individuals, families, communities and civil society to join hands in promoting and protecting the rights of children. This is in accordance with the Children’s Act, which advocates for the care and protection of children as well as definition of parental responsibilities and rights. The Child Protection Week is aimed at tackling challenges facing children which include child abuse, human trafficking and teenage pregnancy. The devastating impact of HIV and AIDS on families also resulted to an increase in the number of orphaned and vulnerable children. Minister Dlamini will outline the measures that government has put in place to protect children from abuse, neglect and exploitation. Minister Dlamini will be accompanied by Free State Premier, Mr Ace Magashule, Deputy Minister of Social Development, Mrs Bongi Maria Ntuli, MEC for Social Development in Free State, Ms Sisi Ntombela and the Minister for Women, Children and People with disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana.
