A disability grant is an income support measure given to people who are physically or mentally disabled, unfit to work and unable to support themselves. You get a permanent disability grant if your disability will continue for more than a year and a temporary disability grant if your disability will continue for a continuous period of not less than six months or for a continuous period of not more than twelve months.

The disability grant,as from 01 October 2008, was R960 per month and as from 01 April 2009 it is R1010 per month.

WHO QUALIFIES

Any young person or adult between the ages of 18 -59 (females) and 18 – 62 (males) 

STEPS TO APPLY

• All Applicants will be asked to complete a grants form

• Applicant should have A 13 digit bar coded South African ID book or a permanent   residence

• Applicant must submit a medical / assessment report confirming disability 

NOTE THAT:

• The applicant: must be a South African citizen,permanent resident or refugee

• A spouse must meet the requirements of the means test

• Applicant must not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution

• Applicant must not be in receipt of another social grant in respect of yourself
